This Little Piggy went wee wee wee all the way home!
So, do you like the idea of giving a small pet piggy a forever home? We understand! Whether you end up ordering a piggy from us, from someone else, or deciding that a piggy is not the right pet for you at this time, here’s what we suggest you do.
STEP ONE: Do your research and educate yourself. Start by thoroughly reading our website, and particularly the education section
STEP TWO: Check your local by-laws to see if your area allows a piggy pet. Sometimes areas that don’t allow them will make exceptions. You can learn more about that here.
STEP THREE: Read our suggestions for ensuring that you’re dealing with a reputable breeder.
STEP FOUR: Read our purchase information page.
STEP FIVE: If you’re now really excited to order a pet piggy from us, send us your application!
STEP SIX: Once your application is approved, you make your deposit and join our Waiting List.
STEP SEVEN: We’ll keep you updated on the sow’s pregnancy, and let you know when the piglets are born. The piglets will be cared for, socialized, de-wormed, and neutered or spayed. At six weeks of age, the buyers will choose their piglet, in order of their position on the Waiting List. The piglets stay with their moms until they’re six weeks old, and then we start to socialize them further.
STEP EIGHT: The piglets are now at least eight weeks old, and either you’ll be picking your piggy up or we’ll be shipping him or her to you if that has been arranged in advance. It’s time for you and your piglet to start your new life together!
Of course, THE MOST IMPORTANT STEP can take place anywhere in the process. And the MOST IMPORTANT STEP in a pet pig purchase is for you to come and meet us, and see all our piggies! We will only sell piggies to people who have met us and our herd.
City By-Laws and Mini Pet Pigs
Where by-laws are concerned, a mini pet pig is technically considered to be the same classification of animal as its full-sized commercial pig cousin. Particularly in urban areas there are often existing by-laws that do not allow you to keep a pig on your premises.
In January 2012, Jaime Neeb created a letter which she sent out to the major centres in Ontario asking for a change in outdated by-laws prohibiting ownership of Class 1 livestock in city limits. Pigs are included in this Class 1 rule. The Class 1 definition suits large commercial swine, not mini pet pigs.
At that time, she received a call from the Senior Clerk in Barrie, Ontario. He said that while they will not revise the by-laws in general, they do take each call on a case-by-case basis, and in the case of mini pet pigs, they would grant owners a “temporary” exemption and allow interested peoples to keep mini pet pigs. Should there be any complaints or infractions, the city would then have the power or authority to revoke the exemption. He told Jaime that at that point in time no one had ever filed a complaint.
To find out whether owning a mini pig is allowed in your jurisdiction, just search “animal control by-laws” and your town’s or city’s name. You can read through the by-laws to see whether there are any restrictions on owning a pig.
If there are restrictions against owning a pig in your area, we strongly suggest that you speak to your senior by-law officer, in person if possible. You can request that they grant you an exemption, similar to the ones described in Barrie, above.
To prepare for your meeting with your municipal by-law officer, we suggest you first become very knowledgeable about all aspects of pet mini pigs. You must be the one to contact your authorities – we cannot do this for you. What we can do, though, is provide you with a sample letter that you can submit to your local by-law office.
Please let us know if you would like a copy of the sample letter to send to your by-law officer. When we send it to you, we will also send you changes we suggest to make to the original letter.

Mini Piglet Application Form
If you would like to be on the Waiting List for a future litter of piglets, the following are the questions we will ask you to answer. If you send us an email and let us know that you would like to apply, we’ll send you back a message with the list of questions, and you can use that to answer and return to us. By answering these questions, you will know, and we will know, if you have given piggy ownership enough thought.
- Please send us your name, the city and province you live in, and your email address.
- Are you aware of the adult size that a mini pet pig grows to (about the size of an English Bulldog)?
- Are you aware that a mini pig can live for 12 years or more?
- Do you have a veterinarian you have contacted who would be willing to provide care for your little pig? Please provide us with the name of the veterinarian you have chosen.
- Have you read through our website so that you are aware of both the challenges and fun of having a piggy companion?
- Please tell us a little about your home life. How long each day would piggy be left alone? How many people live in your home? Are there any children? Are there any other pets?
- Do you live in a house or apartment?
- Do you have access to a fenced yard or area where your pig could root around as well as soil?
- Are you financially able to provide annual and emergency veterinarian care for your pet pig?
- Are you willing to commit to spending at least two hours a day to socialization of your pet?
- Have you investigated whether your municipal by-laws permit you to own a pet pig?
We will only be breeding occasionally, so if you’re interested in one of our piglets, contact us and let us know.
The birthing and care of the litters takes a lot of time and effort. Since Heal with Horses is a very busy farm that’s becoming busier, we will generally only try to provide one litter a year now. Our best time to have the litter born is late spring, which means that piglets get to go to their new homes in the summer.
When you purchase a Hogs & Kisses Mini Pet Pig, you are provided with a one-year Genetic Health Guarantee. You are also agreeing to ALL conditions on the Piggy Sales Agreement. Please review these documents carefully. We screen all of our applicants, as we are looking to place our piggies in their forever homes.
All Hogs & Kisses Mini Pet Piglets are spayed or neutered before they go to live with their new family. The cost of spaying or neutering is included in the purchase price. An altered pet pig makes for a much better pet and a much happier pet owner!
We like to price each litter with one flat price, regardless of piglet size, colour, and markings. First and foremost, we are animal lovers. We believe that all of our piglets will make wonderful companion animals, and we don’t value one over another. Once you bond with a little piggy, you will understand that they are all special, and we know that their future owners will feel the same.
When we set the price for a litter of piglets, there are several things we have to factor in. One is the purchase cost and maintenance costs of the breeding herd, including veterinary costs when needed. We also need to factor in the veterinary costs for the piglets to be checked by the vet and neutered or spayed.
For 2019, the price for piglets will be $900.00 , plus tax.
Our price includes the piglet’s spay or neuter, and a check up with the vet. We provide a one-year written health guarantee against genetic defects.
A Mini Piglet Application Form must be filled out, submitted, and approved for those wishing for a mini piglet. After approval, a $200 non-refundable deposit per piglet requested secures your spot in the choosing order of piglets, and once the piglets are six weeks of age, approved applicants who have paid the NON-REFUNDABLE deposit will choose their piglet based on their spot in the choosing order, which is based on the order of deposit money received. Pricing of the piglets is set by Hogs & Kisses Mini Pet Pigs. The balance of payment, less the deposit already received, must be submitted to Hogs & Kisses Mini Pet Pigs by the time you are ready to pick up your piglet. Provided that all goes well, our piglets stay with their mama pig until they are weaned at about 6 weeks of age, and do not go to their new home until at least 8 weeks of age.
All piglets will have begun their litter training and will be quite well socialized prior to going home with you. We start getting the piglets used to people from day one, including lots of children. The piglets also get introduced to at least one car trip.
We also provide you with a 10 lb. bag of our own Hogs & Kisses Mini Pet Pig Food, which your piglet will have grown up eating!
Payments can be made by Email Money Transfer through your online banking, cash, and PayPal debit or credit card through PayPal. We will outline the payment options to you by email once your Mini Piglet Application has been approved.
If you would like to be considered for a Hogs & Kisses Mini Pet Pig piglet, simply fill out the piglet application form, and once approved, you will be able to submit a deposit through Email Money Transfer through your online banking, or use the PayPal or credit card link.
Before you make your deposit, please be sure you understand that UNDER NO CONDITIONS WILL WE BE REFUNDING DEPOSITS PAID.
